WELCOME TO NORTHERN SAMAR

Clean, unspoiled, unexplored, hidden paradise

Tourism in Nortehrn Samar

We mainly cater to real estate investment at Northern Samar. There are huge potentials for tourism, leisure, and retirement developments in this province. We have almost 50 kilometers of non contiguous white, silver, and golden sandy beaches that are not developed yet. In addition, we have islands with fine white sandy beaches. One of the islands, San Antonio-twice the size of Boracay, is surrounded by white sandy beaches. The beaches are not polluted. In fact, what you see on the shores are organic debris from dead trees.

When you see a clean beach then you will wonder who cleans it. If you see civilization around it then you know people in the area take care of the beach. But you have to wonder; how is the town's sewage system implemented? Do they have septic tanks or just dig a hole down the earth and place their toilet over it? If the beach is clean it does not mean that the water is clean. Leaching of human waste, unless contained, reaches the sea all the time. Places that are famous for beach resorts in the country have attractive white sandy beaches and clear water. But overdevelopment has a price. Environmental conservation was not a concern at the start of resort and business development on the beach. The nice sight of pristine white beach such as Boracay is merely a cover up of what organisms you are swimming with when you are on the ocean. Obviously, balanced eco-tourism was not considered by developers before. Thus, the arrival of thousands of tourists in destinations like Boracay was not foreseen as having a negative effect on the environment.

New York City has a very good sewage and drainage system. It can handle 10 million people and still be able to maintain acceptable level of clean environment standard. When disasters come such as strong rain and Tornados, the sewage system overflows and the city implements prohibition from visiting, bathing, fishing, and strolling on the beach until the problem is remediated. In Boracay, before the discovery of its natural attractions, the ratio of people and land is more than enough for the environment to handle. When business people and tourists arrived, the ratio is imbalanced. A small island is not enough space for millions of visitors. In addition, modern sewage management system was not implemented. There must have been more than 3 million tourists who have visited Boracay since it became one of the major tourist destinations in the country. If a tourist, in a 3-day visit, left 1 kilo of human waste in the island imagine how much human wastes have been deposited in the island already and where have they gone, not counting the garbage, used water for laundry, and bathroom and do they recycle? And yet, they are still coming, both local and foreign visitors. Boracay needs an efficient sewage system, strict waste disposal/recycling program like New York. That is not assured for the moment. We urged the national government and the LGU to really pay attention to this environmental issues so our tourists can continue to enjoy Boracay while maintaining the balance between man and nature and conserving the fragile environment. While this problem persists we would like to bring your attention to the unexplored warm and hidden paradise called Northern Samar; huge land area, less population, and tourist planners who are highly aware of the sensitive issue of environmental conservation.
