Northern Samar is one of
the provinces in the island of Samar. It is located in the northern part
of the island facing San Bernardino Strait and the province of Sorsogon.
Its capital town is Catarman which can be reach by air from Manila for
45 minutes or from Bicol with 2-hour ride by Ro Ro boat and 40 minutes
ride by car from the seaport of Allen.
Northern Samar was the key
stopover point for the Spanish Galleons that plied the route between Manila
and Acapulco, Mexico. Historical landmarks in Northern Samar include Sumoroy's
Marker in Palapag, the former Spanish royal port, Capul church, and the
San Bernardino and Batag Lighthouses.
