THE
GUIDE TO RETIRING AND INVESTING IN THE PHILIPPINES
4.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE- Being under the rule of Americans for 50 years, Filipinos
are proficient with English language. In fact, some Filipinos can speak
with flawless American accent. We are the third largest English speaking
country in terms of population ( 100 million approx.). At the early stage
of school years we learned English already (I got in touch with English
in grade two). Nowadays, it is important for every individual to speak
English whether for business or pleasure. This is true to retirees even
if their mother tongue is not English. Filipinos can speak or understand
English. Business transactions, official documents, signs, directions,
and most newspapers, are written in English. College instructions, business
seminars and presentations are conducted in English. Thus, service is
a breeze; you understand what is written and you are instructed in English
when you need help. This comes in handy when you are in a bank, mall,
stores (even in local provincial store), government offices, and business
establishments. You may find English language not a problem in Malaysia
and Thailand but Philippines is still the third largest English speaking
country. You may have difficulty trying your luck with this language in
South America.
In
Northern Samar everybody understands English and majority speaks the language.
Additionally, Paradise Village is already populated with foreign retirees
so the first step of socializing and acquainting the community is already
taken cared of.
