THE GUIDE TO RETIRING AND INVESTING IN THE PHILIPPINES

3. CONVENIENCE- Philippines, among its Asian neighbors, is a very westernized country. It had been a colony of Spain for 300 years, under the United States for 50 years. The colonization from America had a long lasting effect in the lives of Filipinos. English language is one of the benefits. Western culture, business, politics, economy, and social life have been assimilated in the Filipino culture. There is a blend of west and east when it comes to visiting the Philippines. Our shopping areas have various businesses that address the local and foreign needs. Signature apparels, internationally known brands, franchised stores and restaurants can be found in our malls. These establishments stand side by side with local shops and restaurants. You may eat at McDonald or choose Jollibee at a food court in the mall. Entertainment is at par with western standard. You can spend the night at a bar in Makati or a disco in Shangrila, or a performance at Folk Arts Theater.

Do you want first world shopping? We are the hub of South East Asia. From Tokyo, Shanghai, Taipei, Hongkong down to Singapore and Macao, Manila in the Philippines is right in the middle of them. Thus, if you want to retire in South America, or in Thailand and Tahiti, you do not have these big modern cities around you. What else do you need in your retirement? Filipinos are hospitable and friendly people. We love foreigners and, to be honest, we are fascinated by their looks. From Michael Jordan, Samuel Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres or Jack Black to Manny Pacquiao ( sorry, the last one is local but he is an internationally known boxer in case you do not know), whatever country our retirees come from we are excited to see foreign people in our country.
