WELCOME
TO NORTHERN SAMAR
Clean,
unspoiled, unexplored, hidden paradise
CATUBIG,
GATEWAY TO RIVER HIGHWAY
Catubig
is the center of trade and commerce to the outlying communities along
the river. This river connects Las Navas and other districts in which
the only mode of transportation are boats also known as water jeepneys
and outriggers. Catubig is a town of historic importance. It was in this
town that fierce fighting between Filipino guerillas and the occupying
Americans occurred. Both suffered heavy losses but the Filipinos, adamant
to be subjected to another colonizers, displayed exceptional bravery and
determination against the powerful occupier.
Catubig
is a bustling town and its major attraction is the river dock. This functions
like the bus terminal of the area. People from inland take the boat to
Catubig and do their usual business and economic transactions. From Catubig
people then travel by land to different destination, mostly to Catarman
for business or services from the provincial government, or to take the
plane to Manila. People also go to Laoang, a more economically prosperous
town in the eastern part of Northern Samar.

fights of the locals during the American occupation.
