Catarman is the capital town of Northern Samar. It is the seat of the provincial government with Atty Raul Daza as its governor. All business and public activities are conducted in this town. Catarman is also home of different government departments such as Department of Transportation, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, to name a few.

Catarman has approximately 20 colleges and technical schools. In term of land area, it is the home of the largest university in the Philippines, the University of Eastern Philippines ( 15 square kilometers with 3 barrios inside the university). Catarman has roughly 20 hospitals and clinics. Few of the hospitals are equipped with modern medical machines which can be found in the hospitals in Manila. To settle in Northern Samar assures you of adequate medical services. Catarman has modern facilities such as new bus terminal and new market. Products, from construction supply to apple, are available in Catarman. Jollibee, a Philippine brand fast food store, has just opened last July 2007. Grocery stores that sell foods tailored to the western needs can be found in Catarman.
